1050—‘Abd Allah ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Ali ibn Zayd al-Naysaburi informed us; he said: ‘Abd Allah ibn Muhammad ibn Muslim narrated to us; he said: Yunus ibn ‘Abd al-A‘la narrated to us; he said: Ibn Wahb narrated to us; he said: Yunus ibn Yazid narrated to us, from Ibn Shihab, who was informed by ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Hunaydah that ‘Abd Allah ibn ‘Umar said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said—

1051—And Muhammad ibn al-Husayn al-Farisi informed us; he said: Ahmad ibn Sa‘id al-Thaqafi informed us; he said: Muhammad ibn Yahya al-Dhuhli narrated to us; he said: Abu Salih narrated to us; he said: Al-Layth narrated to me; he said: Yunus ibn Yazid narrated to me, from Ibn Shihab, who was informed by ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Hunaydah, from ‘Abd Allah ibn ‘Umar, who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say:

“When Allah creates a person, the angel of the womb turns to his Lord and asks, ‘My Lord, male or female?’ Allah then conveys His decree to him. He then asks, ‘My Lord, wretched or blessed?’ Allah then conveys His decree to him. Then what he is to encounter is inscribed between his eyes, even the affliction that will befall him.”

This is the wording of Abu Salih’s hadith ⦗657⦘, while Yunus’s hadith is similar to it.
