1036 — Isa ibn Ali informed us; Abd Allah ibn Muhammad al-Baghawi informed us. He said: Hudbah ibn Khalid narrated to us. He said: Hammad ibn Salamah narrated to us, from Humayd, from al-Hasan, from Jundub—or someone else—that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:
“Adam met Moses, and Moses said, ‘You are Adam, whom Allah created with His Hand, settled in His Paradise ⦗645⦘, and before whom He caused His angels to prostrate. Then you did what you did and brought your descendants out of Paradise?’
He said, ‘And you are Moses, whom Allah chose by means of His messages, spoke to, and taught the Torah. So which came first: I, or the decree?’ He replied, ‘Rather, the decree.’ The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: ‘Thus Adam prevailed over Moses in the argument.’”
