1034—Abd al-Rahman ibn Umar informed us; Muhammad ibn Jafar informed us; Ahmad ibn Abd Allah ibn Yazid narrated to us; Abd al-Razzaq narrated to us; Mamar informed us, from Hammam ibn Munabbih, from Abu Hurayrah, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:
“Adam and Moses disputed. Moses said, ‘Are you Adam, the one who led mankind astray and brought them forth from Paradise to the earth?’ Adam replied, ‘Are you Moses, the one to whom Allah gave everything and whom He chose above the people by means of His message?’ ⦗644⦘ He said, ‘Yes.’ Adam said, ‘Do you blame me for something that had been decreed before I did it, before I was created?’ Thus Adam prevailed over Moses in the argument.”
Both al-Bukhari and Muslim recorded it.
