Shaykh Abu Bakr Ahmad ibn ‘Ali ibn al-Husayn ibn Zakariyya al-Turaythithi informed us. He said: Shaykh Abu al-Qasim Hibat Allah ibn al-Husayn ibn Mansur al-Tabari, the hadith master, narrated to us. He said: Muhammad ibn Ja‘far informed us; Ubayd Allah informed us; Ahmad narrated to us; Abd Allah narrated to us; Mu‘awiyah narrated to us, from ‘Ali, from Ibn ‘Abbas, concerning His saying: “Those are the ones who have lost themselves and their families on the Day of Resurrection.” He said: “They are the disbelievers whom Allah created for the Fire and for whom He created the Fire. This worldly life has passed away from them, and Paradise has been forbidden to them.” Allah said: “He has lost this world and the Hereafter.” [al-Hajj 22:11]

And His saying: “What would my Lord care for you were it not for your supplication?” [al-Furqan 25:77]

1023 — That is, were it not for your faith. Thus Allah informed the disbelievers that He has no need of them, since He did not create them as believers. Had He had any need of them, He would have made faith beloved to them, just as He made it beloved to the believers.
