997—‘Abd al-Rahman ibn ‘Umar informed us. Muhammad ibn Ja‘far informed us. He said: Ahmad ibn ‘Abd Allah ibn Yazid narrated to us. He said: ‘Abd al-Razzaq narrated to us. He said: Ma‘mar informed us, from Hammam ibn Munabbih, from Abu Hurayrah, who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:

“Everyone is born upon this natural disposition; then his parents make him a Jew, a Christian, or a Magian—just as they breed an animal which gives birth to a whole animal. Do you see any animal born mutilated, until you yourselves mutilate it?”

They said, “O Messenger of Allah, what of one who dies while still young?” ⦗623⦘ He said, “Allah knows best what they would have done.”
