995—‘Ubayd Allah informed us. ‘Abd Allah ibn Muhammad ibn Ziyad informed us. He said: Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us. He said: Muhammad ibn Yusuf narrated to us. He said: al-Awza‘i narrated to us. He said: al-Zuhri informed me, from Humayd ibn ‘Abd al-Rahman ⦗622⦘, from Abu Hurayrah, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:

“Every child is born upon this natural disposition; then his parents make him a Jew, a Christian, or a Magian.”

Al-Awza‘i said: “And that is by Allah’s decree and predestination.”
