994—‘Ubayd Allah ibn Ahmad informed us. He said: ‘Abd Allah ibn Muhammad ibn Ziyad informed us. He said: Muhammad ibn Yahya and Ahmad ibn Mansur narrated to us. They said: ‘Abd al-Razzaq narrated to us. He said: Ma‘mar informed us, from al-Zuhri, from Sa‘id ibn al-Musayyib, from Abu Hurayrah, who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:

“Every child is born upon this natural disposition; then his parents make him a Jew, a Christian, or a Magian, just as you breed livestock. Do you detect any of them born mutilated?”

Abu Hurayrah would then say: “Recite, if you wish: ‘The natural disposition of Allah upon which He has created mankind’” [al-Rum 30:30].
