992—Muhammad ibn Ja‘far informed us, and ‘Ubayd Allah ibn Thabit informed us. Ahmad ibn Mansur narrated to us. He said: ‘Abd Allah ibn Salih narrated to us. He said: Mu‘awiyah ibn Salih narrated to us, from ‘Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn ‘Abbas, concerning His saying:

“And when your Lord brought forth from the children of Adam—from their loins—their descendants” [al-A‘raf 7:172]

He said: Allah created Adam, then brought forth his descendants from his loins, like tiny particles, and said to them, “Who is your Lord?” They replied, “Allah is our Lord.” He then returned them to his loins, until those from whom He took the covenant would be born. Nothing will be added to them or taken away from them until the Day of Resurrection.
