Ali ibn Muhammad ibn Isa informed us; Ali ibn Muhammad al-Misri informed us, saying: Miqdam ibn Dawud narrated to us; Dhuʾayb ibn Imamah narrated to us; Abd al-Aziz ibn Abi Hazim narrated to us, from his father, from Sahl ibn Saʿd, who said:
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ recited this verse:
“Do they not then ponder over the Quran? Or are there locks upon their hearts?” [Muhammad: 24]
A young boy was sitting with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, “Indeed, by Allah, O Messenger of Allah, locks are upon them, and none can open them except ⦗609⦘ the One who locked them.” When Umar assumed the caliphate, he sought him out in order to appoint him to office, saying, “Only one possessed of understanding could have said that.”
