971 — Muhammad ibn Ja‘far al-Naḥwī informed us: ‘Ubayd Allah ibn Thābit al-Jazarī narrated to us; Ahmad ibn Manṣūr narrated to us; ‘Abd Allah ibn Ṣāliḥ narrated to us; Mu‘āwiyah ibn Ṣāliḥ narrated to us, from ‘Alī ibn Abī Ṭalḥah, from Ibn ‘Abbās, regarding His saying: “So whoever wills—let him believe; and whoever wills—let him disbelieve.” [Surah al-Kahf, 18:29] He said: “It means: whomever Allah wills to have faith, believes; and whomever Allah wills to disbelieve, disbelieves. This is His saying: ‘And you do not will unless Allah wills.’”
