967—‘Ali ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Umar informed us; he said: ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Hatim informed us; he said: Abu Sa‘id al-Ashajj narrated to us; Ibn ‘Ulayyah narrated to us, from Mansur ibn ‘Abd al-Rahman, who said ⦗606⦘: I said to al-Hasan, concerning: “They will continue to differ, except those upon whom your Lord has mercy”: “People differ in their various religions, except those upon whom your Lord has mercy; they do not differ.” I said: “And for that He created them?” He said: “He created these for His Paradise and these for the Fire; He created these for His mercy and these for His punishment.”
