962—Muhammad ibn Ja‘far informed us; he said: ‘Ubayd Allah ibn Thabit informed us; he said: Ahmad ibn Mansur narrated to us; he said: ‘Abd Allah ibn Salih narrated to us; he said: Mu‘awiyah ibn Salih narrated to us, from ‘Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn ‘Abbas, regarding His saying, “Is one who was dead, then We gave him life…” [al-An‘am 6:122]: that is, he said, one who was an unbeliever, astray, and whom We guided; “and gave him a light by which he walks among the people”—the light means the Quran—one who believes in it and acts upon it, like one whose likeness is in darkness, unbelief, and misguidance.
