961—Muhammad ibn Jaʿfar informed us; he said: ʿUbayd Allah ibn Thābit narrated to us; he said: Ahmad ibn Manṣūr narrated to us; he said: ʿAbd Allah ibn Ṣāliḥ narrated to us; he said: Muʿāwiyah ibn Ṣāliḥ narrated to us, from ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭalḥah, from Ibn ʿAbbās, concerning His saying: “Just as He originated you, so you shall return: one group He guided, while another group deserved to be in error.” [al-Aʿrāf 7:30] He said: “Allah, glorified be He, began the creation of the children of Adam as believers and disbelievers. Then He said: ‘He is the One Who created you; among you are disbelievers and among you are believers.’ [al-Taghābun 64:2] Then, on the Day of Resurrection, He will restore them just as He began their creation: believer and disbeliever.”
