948—ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn Muḥammad informed us; al-Ḥusayn ibn Yaḥyā related to us; al-Ḥasan ibn ʿArafah related to us; Marwān ibn Shujāʿ al-Jazarī related to us, from ʿAbd al-Malik—that is, Ibn Jurayj—from ʿAṭāʾ ibn Abī Rabāḥ, who said: I came to Ibn ʿAbbās while he was drawing water from Zamzam, and the lower parts of his garments had become wet. I said to him, “People have begun speaking about the divine decree.” He said, “Have they really done so?” I replied, “Yes.” He said, “By Allah, this verse was revealed only concerning them: ‘Taste the touch of Hell!’ [al-Qamar 54:48] ‘Indeed, We have created all things according to a precise decree.’ [al-Qamar 54:49] Do not visit their sick or pray over their dead. If I were shown one of them, I would gouge out his eye.”
