- Ahmad ibn Ubayd informed us: Muhammad ibn al-Husayn informed us; Ahmad ibn Zuhayr narrated to us, saying: I heard Ahmad ibn Abd Allah ibn Yunus say:
“Test the people of Mosul by their attitude toward Mu'afa ibn Imran: if they love him, then they are people of the sunnah; but if they hate him, then they are people of innovation—just as the people of Kufa are tested by Yahya.”
٥٨ - أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ , أنبا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ , ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ زُهَيْرٍ , قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ أَحْمَدَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ يُونُسَ يَقُولُ: «امْتَحِنْ أَهْلَ الْمَوْصِلِ بِمُعَافَى بْنِ عِمْرَانَ , فَإِنْ أَحَبُّوهُ فَهُمْ أَهْلُ السُّنَّةِ , وَإِنْ أَبْغَضُوهُ فَهُمْ أَهْلُ بِدْعَةٍ , كَمَا يُمْتَحَنُ أَهْلُ الْكُوفَةِ بِيَحْيَى»
