923 — Abd al-Rahman mentioned it: Muhammad ibn Abd al-Malik al-Wasiti narrated to us; Ufairah bint Waqif said: Humaydah—meaning the daughter of Thabit al-Bunani—told me: “I shall narrate to you a hadith between me and the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, there are only two men, one of whom is my father. Anas and Abu Zilal were in Thabit’s house, and Anas said: ‘O Abu Zilal, when did you lose your sight?’ He replied: ‘When I was a young boy, before I had understanding.’ He said: ‘Shall I narrate to you a hadith which the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, narrated to me, relating it from Gabriel, and Gabriel relating it from his Lord?’ He said: ‘O Gabriel, what is the reward of one from whom I have taken his two precious things?’ He replied: ‘Glory be to You! We have no knowledge except what You have taught us.’ [al-Baqarah: 32] He said: ‘His reward is everlasting abode in My Home and beholding My Face.’”
