918 — Ali ibn Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn Ya‘qub informed us. He said: Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Hatim informed us. He said: Muhammad ibn al-Wazir al-Wasiti narrated to us. He said: Mu‘tamir ibn Sulayman al-Taymi narrated to us, from Yazid ibn Ibrahim al-Tustari, from Qatadah, from Abd Allah ibn Shaqiq, who said:

I said to Abu Dharr, “Had I lived in the time of the Prophet, I would have asked him.”

He said, “What would you have asked him?”

He said, “I would have asked him whether he saw his Lord.”

He said, “I did ask him, and he said, ‘Light—how could I see Him? Light—how could I see Him?’” He repeated this two or three times.

Muslim transmitted it from Abu Bakr, from Waki‘, from Yazid.
