Abū Dharr reported that the Prophet, may Allah’s blessings and peace be upon him, said: “Each morning, an act of charity is due for every joint (1) of each of you. Every declaration of Allah’s transcendence is an act of charity; every expression of praise to Allah is an act of charity; every declaration of His oneness is an act of charity; every proclamation of His greatness is an act of charity; enjoining what is right is an act of charity; and forbidding what is wrong is an act of charity. Two rakʿahs performed as the Duhā Prayer suffice for all of that.” Related by Muslim. (2)
Abū al-Dardā and Abū Dharr reported that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah’s blessings and peace be upon him, narrated that Allah, Mighty and Majestic, said: “O son of Adam! Perform four rakʿahs for Me at the beginning of the day, and I shall suffice you for its latter part.” Related by al-Tirmidhī. (3)
Abū Hurayrah reported that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah’s blessings and peace be upon him, said: “Only one who continually turns to Allah maintains the Duhā Prayer.” He also said: “It is the prayer of those who continually turn to Allah.” Related by Ibn Khuzaymah and al-Hākim. (4)
(1) *Sulāmā* is a singular noun; its plural is *sulāmiyyāt*. It originally denotes the finger joints, but later came to be used for all the bones and joints of the body. Al-Nawawī, *Sharh Muslim* (5/233).
(2) This hadith is *sahīh*.
Muslim recorded it in the Book of the Prayer of Travelers and Its Abbreviation, chapter “The Recommendation of the Duhā Prayer, Its Minimum of Two Rakʿas, Its Most Complete Form of Eight Rakʿas, Its Intermediate Form of Four or Six Rakʿas, and the Encouragement to Observe It Regularly,” hadith no. 720. See also *Jāmi al-Usūl* (9/436).
(3) This hadith is *hasan*.
Ahmad recorded it in *al-Musnad* (6/440, 451), and al-Tirmidhī recorded it in the Book of Prayer, chapter “What Has Been Related Concerning the Duhā Prayer,” hadith no. 475.
Al-Tirmidhī graded the hadith *hasan gharīb*. Shaykh Ahmad Shākir authenticated it as *sahīh* in his critical edition of al-Tirmidhī, as did al-Albānī in *Sahīh Sunan al-Tirmidhī* (1/147). The editor of *Jāmi al-Usūl* graded it *hasan* (9/437).
(4) This hadith is *hasan*.
Ibn Khuzayma recorded it (2/228), as did al-Hākim in *al-Mustadrak* (1/314), with the wording cited here appearing in both works. Al-Tabarānī also recorded it in *al-Awsat* (2/279—*Majma al-Bahrayn*), but without the words: “It is the prayer of the *awwābīn* (those who repeatedly turn to Allah).”
Al-Hākim authenticated the hadith as meeting Muslim’s criteria, and al-Albānī graded it *hasan* in *Silsilat al-Ahādīth al-Sahīha* (hadith no. 1994).
