of the two units, it states: “In the two units, he would recite: ‘Say: He is Allah, the One,’ and ‘Say: O disbelievers.’” Muslim related it (1).
(18-4) Prayer in Quba Mosque
Usayd ibn Zuhayr al-Ansārī reported that the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: “For someone to set out and come to Quba is like performing an Umrah.” Al-Tirmidhī and Ibn Mājah related it (2).
Sahl ibn Hunayf reported that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: “Whoever sets out and comes to this mosque—the Quba Mosque—and prays there will receive the equivalent of an Umrah.” Al-Nasā’ī and Ibn Mājah related it (3).
These two hadiths establish the virtue of praying in the Quba Mosque (4).
(1) An authentic hadith. Its source references were given shortly above.
(2) A *hasan* (sound) hadith.
Al-Tirmidhī narrated it in the Book of Prayer, chapter “What Has Been Related about Prayer in Qubā Mosque” (no. 324), and Ibn Mājah in the Book of Establishing Prayer, chapter “What Has Been Related about Prayer in Qubā Mosque” (no. 1411).
Al-Tirmidhī said of it, “A *hasan gharīb* hadith.” Al-Dhahabī said in *al-Mīzān* (2/96), “A *munkar* (denounced) hadith.” This judgment was challenged in *Tuhfat al-Ahwadhī* (1/269): “I do not know why it should be considered *munkar*, for it is corroborated by the hadith of Sahl ibn Hunayf and that of Ka‘b ibn Ujrah.” The editor of *Jāmi al-Usūl* graded it *hasan li-ghayrihi* (sound due to corroborating evidence) (9/337), while al-Albānī graded it authentic in *Sahīh Sunan al-Tirmidhī* (1/104).
(3) A *hasan* (sound) hadith.
Al-Nasā’ī narrated it in the Book of Mosques, chapter “The Merit of Qubā Mosque and Prayer Therein” (2/37), and Ibn Mājah in the Book of Establishing Prayer and the Sunnah Concerning It, chapter “What Has Been Related about Prayer in Qubā Mosque” (no. 1412).
The editor of *Jāmi al-Usūl* graded it *hasan li-ghayrihi* (sound due to corroborating evidence) (9/336), while al-Albānī graded it authentic in *Sahīh Sunan al-Nasā’ī* (1/150).
(4) Ibn Hajar said in *Fath al-Bārī* (3/69): “Among the merits of Qubā Mosque is the report narrated by Umar ibn Shabbah in *Akhbār al-Madīnah*, with a sound chain of transmission, from Sa‘d ibn Abī Waqqās, who said: ‘To pray two rak‘ahs in Qubā Mosque is dearer to me than to visit Bayt al-Maqdis twice. If people knew the merit found in Qubā, they would drive their camels there.’”
