Atā ibn Abī Rabāh reported: “Ibn al-Zubayr led us in prayer early in the day on an Eid that fell on a Friday. We then went for the Friday prayer, but he did not come out to us, so we prayed individually. Ibn Abbās was in Tā’if, and when he returned, we mentioned this to him. He said, ‘He acted in accordance with the Sunnah.’” Reported by Abu Dawud. (1)
— (6-14-4) If One Misses the Eid Prayer, He Should Perform Two Rak‘ahs:
If a Muslim misses the Eid prayer, he should perform two rak‘ahs in the same manner as the imam performs the Eid prayer. This is based on the following hadith:
Aisha—may Allah be pleased with her—said: “Abu Bakr entered while two young Ansari girls were with me, singing verses exchanged by the Ansar on the Day of Bu‘āth.” She added, “Neither of them was a professional singer.” Abu Bakr exclaimed, “The musical instruments of Satan in the house of the Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him?!” This occurred on an Eid. The Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him—said, “O Abu Bakr! Every people has an Eid, and this is our Eid.”
In another narration, Abu Bakr—may Allah be pleased with him—entered while she had two girls with her during the days of Minā, playing tambourines and beating out a rhythm. The Prophet—peace and blessings be upon him—was wrapped in his garment. Abu Bakr rebuked them, whereupon the Prophet—peace and blessings be upon him—uncovered his face and said, “Leave them alone, O Abu Bakr! These are days of Eid.” Those days were the days of Minā. Reported by al-Bukhari and Muslim. (2)
