After al-Fātiha, he recites in both rak‘ahs whatever is easy for him. It is recommended that he recite the surah beginning, “Qāf. By the glorious Quran,” and the surah beginning, “The Hour has drawn near and the moon has split,” reciting aloud. Alternatively, he may recite the surahs beginning, “Glorify the name of your Lord, the Most High,” and “Has the account of the Overwhelming Event reached you?”
The evidence for this is as follows:
Ubayd Allah ibn Abd Allah ibn Utba narrated that Abū Wāqid al-Laythī said: “Umar ibn al-Khattāb asked me what the Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him—used to recite on the day of Eid. I replied: ‘The Hour has drawn near’ and ‘Qāf. By the glorious Quran.’” Reported by Muslim. (1)
Al-Nu‘mān ibn Bashīr reported: “The Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him—would recite in the two Eid prayers and the Friday prayer: ‘Glorify the name of your Lord, the Most High,’ and ‘Has the account of the Overwhelming Event reached you?’” He added: “When Eid and Friday coincided on the same day, he would recite them in both prayers as well.” Reported by Muslim. — (3-14-4) Performing the Two Eid Prayers at the Open Prayer Ground Is the Sunnah:
The sunnah is for the imam or his deputy to go out to the open prayer ground for the two Eid prayers and not to perform them in the mosque except for a valid excuse. (3)
