prostrate yourself once before Allah without Allah thereby raising you one degree and removing one sin from you.” Ma'dān said: Then I met Abū al-Dardā' and asked him. He gave me the same answer as Thawbān. (1).
These two hadiths indicate the virtue of frequently offering voluntary prayers.
(1) This is an authentic hadith.
It was narrated by Muslim in his *Sahīh*, Book of Prayer, chapter “The Virtue of Prostration and Encouragement to Perform It” (no. 488), whose wording is cited here; al-Nasā’ī in the Book of Leading the Prayer, chapter “The Reward of One Who Makes a Single Prostration to Allah, Mighty and Majestic” (2:228); Ibn Mājah in the Book of Establishing Prayer and Its Sunnah, chapter “What Has Been Related Concerning Frequent Prostration” (no. 1423); and al-Tirmidhī in the Book of Prayer, chapter “What Has Been Related Concerning Frequent Bowing and Prostration” (no. 388; 1:300, *Tuhfa*).
Note: In *Tuhfat al-Ahwadhī* (1:300), al-Mubārakfūrī attributed this hadith to Abū Dāwūd, but I could not find it there. Nor is it attributed to Abū Dāwūd in *Tuhfat al-Ashrāf* (2:140), and *Dhakhā’ir al-Mawārīth* likewise does not mention him among those who narrated it.
تسجد لله سجدة؛ إلا رفعك الله بها درجة، وحط بها عنك خطيئة". قال معدان: ثم لقيت أبا الدرداء، فسألته؟ فقال لي مثل ما قال لي ثوبان. (١) .
والحديثان يدلان على فضيلة الإكثار من صلوات التطوع.

أخرجه مسلم في (كتاب الصلاة، باب فضل السجود والحث عليه، حديث رقم ٤٨٨) واللفظ له، والنسائي في (كتاب الإمامة، باب ثواب من سجد لله ﷿ سجدة، ٢/٢٢٨) ، وابن ماجه في (كتاب إقامة الصلاة والسنة فيها، باب ما جاء في كثرة السجود، حديث رقم ١٤٢٣) ، والترمذي في (كتاب الصلاة، باب ما جاء في كثرة الركوع والسجود، حديث رقم ٣٨٨، ١/٣٠٠ – تحفة) .
تنبيه: هذا الحديث عزاه المباركفوري في "تحفة الأحوذي" (١/٣٠٠) لأبي داود ولم أجده، ولم يعزه إليه في "تحفة الأشراف" (٢/١٤٠) ، وكذا لم يشر في "ذخائر المواريث" إلى أبي داود فيمن أخرجه.
