the glad tidings can be delivered, and likewise a command for everything that stirs and rallies the believers to fight and for all that this endeavor requires: readiness, drilling in the causes of courage and perseverance, and the moral strength that springs from mutual affection, unity of word, and similar factors.
Another example is the divine injunction to convey the sacred rulings, remind people of them, and teach them. Everything that serves to deliver those rulings and bring them to the legally responsible is covered by that command. Thus, when the rulings have been confirmed, their causes are present, yet they remain unknown to most people—as with determining the start and end of the fast, the pilgrimage, and the like by sighting the new moon—then announcing them by loud calls, firing cannons, or by any means more effective, such as telegrams and similar devices, is equally included.
Likewise, every instrument that helps convey the voice to listeners falls under the same principle. The mere fact that such devices are new does not render them forbidden. Whatever benefits people is not prohibited by the Quran; on the contrary, the Quran indicates its permissibility for anyone who reasons well and seeks to benefit from it.
This is among the signs of the Quran and one of its greatest proofs: no sound branch of knowledge can ever arise that contradicts anything in it. The Quran either speaks in terms that sound intellects affirm—both in general and in detail—or addresses matters beyond the reach of human reason.
As for the idea that it might contain something sound minds deem impossible and reject, that is impossible. Sense-perception and repeated experience testify to this: no matter how far inventions advance, industries grow, and the natural sciences deepen, and no matter what new realities appear to people nowadays that they previously ignored, the Quran—praise be to Allah—never declares any of it impossible. Rather, we often find verses that contain concise hints or guidance pointing to those realities.
We have discussed some of this elsewhere. Allah knows best and is most wise, and with Allah alone is success.
