and their followers, while He destroyed those who denied them and disbelieved in the Resurrection, visiting them with varied punishments and exemplary chastisements. This is a swift requital and a foretaste of the recompense of the Hereafter that Allah set before His servants, so that anyone who perishes may do so upon clear evidence, and anyone who lives may live upon clear evidence.
Among the same proofs is what Allah has shown His servants of His reviving the dead in this world: the episode of the man associated with the heifer, the thousands from among the Children of Israel, the one who passed by a town lying in ruins, the story of Abraham the Friend and the birds, Jesus son of Mary bringing the dead to life, and other signs that Allah has displayed in this abode, so that people may know that He is Mighty, All-Powerful, and that they must inevitably arrive at the final abode—either Paradise or the Fire.
Allah has presented and reiterated these meanings in many passages, and Allah knows best.
Believers, therefore, show gratitude for this blessing by carrying out what He has commanded and shunning what He has forbidden.
