destitution—betrays the depth of their panic, their evil assumptions about their Lord, and their lack of trust in His sufficiency. Likewise, His statement regarding the enemies of the Messenger of Allah: “They said, ‘If we were to follow the guidance along with you, we would be snatched away from our land’” ⦗al-Qasas 57⦘ lays bare their thoughts about Allah: that He would not grant victory to His religion nor fulfill His word. Examples of this principle are obvious to anyone who possesses sound reflection.
