Even in a father’s dealings with his children, his wife, his household, his servant, his friends, and all those with whom he interacts, there has never been—and there will never be—a single situation that people of sound judgment unanimously regard as more upright and more wholesome than its alternative but that the Qur’an has already pointed to: either by an explicit, unmistakable verse, or by subsuming it under one of its comprehensive, universal principles.
A full discussion of this foundational rule cannot be exhausted in these brief maxims. Every specific directive found in the Qur’an and the Sunnah, as well as whatever true public interest requires, is merely a detailed elaboration of this all-embracing principle.
From this and countless other proofs, it becomes plain that no sound piece of knowledge, no truly beneficial meaning, and no path to genuine reform can ever stand in opposition to the Qur’an. Allah alone is the Guardian of all goodness.
