Al-Qawaid al-Hisan li-Tafsir al-QuranAbd al-Rahman al-Sadi’

and reverence for Allah Most High.
The Names that signify mercy, bounty, and beneficence fill the heart with longing for Allah’s favor and hope in His relief and mercy.
The Names that signify affection, love, and perfection fill the heart with love, intimacy, adoration, and a repentant return to Allah, exalted is He.
The Names that point to the vastness of His knowledge and His subtle awareness oblige the servant to remain watchful of Allah and to feel modesty before Him.
These states with which hearts are endowed are the most perfect states and the noblest description with which a heart can be stamped. A person continues to train himself upon them until his soul and spirit are drawn toward them, yielding and eager; and through these inward acts the outward bodily deeds reach completion.
So we ask Allah, exalted be He, to fill our hearts with knowledge of Him, love for Him, and a constant turning to Him, for He is the Most Generous of the generous and the most Bountiful of those who bestow.
