This, too, is unanimously acknowledged by all the communities of faith—Muslims, Jews, and Christians—for they all affirm that there are intermediaries between Allah and His servants: the messengers who conveyed His commands and His news. Allah the Exalted says, “Allah chooses messengers from the angels and from humankind; truly Allah is All-Hearing, All-Seeing.” ⦗Al-Hajj 22:75⦘ Whoever denies the existence of these intermediaries is, by the consensus of every religious community, a disbeliever.
The surahs revealed in Mecca—such as Al-Anʿām, Al-Aʿrāf, and those that open with Alif-Lām-Rā, Ḥā-Mīm, Ṭā-Sīn, and the like—encompass the fundamentals of the religion: belief in Allah, in His messengers, and in the Last Day.
Allah has also narrated the stories of the unbelievers who rejected the messengers, how He destroyed them, and how He granted victory to His messengers and to the believers. He says, “Our word has already gone forth to Our bond-servants, the messengers, that they will surely be helped, and that Our forces will indeed prevail.” ⦗As-Ṣāffāt 37:171–173⦘ And He says, “Indeed We shall help Our messengers and those who believe, in the life of this world and on the Day when the witnesses arise.” ⦗Ghafir 40:51⦘
These intermediaries, therefore, are to be obeyed, followed, and taken as exemplars, as Allah the Exalted says: “We sent no messenger except that he should be obeyed by Allah’s leave.” ⦗An-Nisāʾ 4:64⦘
