–Glory be to Him! He is the Self-Sufficient One; to Him belongs all that is in the heavens and all that is on the earth.
The idolaters choose intercessors according to the model of worldly intercession they already know. Allah, exalted is He, says:
“They worship, instead of Allah, that which can neither harm nor benefit them, and they say, ‘These are our intercessors with Allah.’ Say: ‘Are you informing Allah of something He does not know in the heavens or on the earth? Glory be to Him, and exalted is He above whatever they associate with Him.’” (10:18)
He also says:
“If only those whom they had taken as gods, seeking thereby a means of nearness, had come to their aid! But they forsook them; such was their fabrication and what they used to invent.” (46:28)
He relates of the polytheists that they said:
“We worship them only so that they may bring us nearer to Allah.” (39:3)
And Allah says:
“Nor would he command you to take the angels and the prophets as lords. Would he command you to disbelief after you have submitted?” (3:80)
