An Intermediary between the Truth and the Creation

[The Prophets as the Medium of Conveyance] 1
Shaykh al-Islām—may Allah sanctify his soul—was asked:
Two men debated, and one of them said: “We must have an intermediary between ourselves and Allah, for we cannot reach Him without one.”
He replied:
All praise belongs to Allah, Lord of all worlds. If by this he means that we necessarily need a medium to bring us Allah’s commands, then that is correct. People do not know what Allah loves and is pleased with, what He has commanded and forbidden, what He has prepared for His allies of honor, or what He has promised His enemies of punishment; nor do they know what Allah deserves of His Most Beautiful Names and Sublime Attributes—realities the intellects are incapable of grasping—except through the messengers whom Allah sent to His servants.
Those who believe in the messengers and follow them are the rightly guided; Allah draws them near to Him, raises their ranks, and honors them in this world and the Hereafter.
