“And the scholars are unanimously agreed upon his eminence, his leadership, the loftiness of his rank, his expertise in this discipline, his precedence within it, and his profound mastery of it.”

He further declared, “Know that Muslim—may Allah have mercy on him—is one of the towering imams of this field, among its foremost luminaries, a master memorizer and meticulous scholar who journeyed to the leading authorities of every region and land in pursuit of knowledge. The experts, without dispute, acknowledge his precedence in it; those endowed with skill and insight continually return to his book and rely upon it in every age.”

Al-Dhahabī said in al-ʿIbar, “Abū al-Ḥusayn al-Nīsābūrī, the ḥāfiẓ (pillar in memorizing hadith), was one of the supports of the hadith sciences.”
