al-Imam al-Bukhari wa Kitabuhu al-Jami al-SahihAbd al-Muhsin al-‘Abbad

The number of al-Bukhārī’s teachers in the Jāmiʿ al-Ṣaḥīḥ and their respective ranks:—
The author of Kashf al-Ẓunūn records that the teachers from whom al-Bukhārī transmits in the Jāmiʿ al-Ṣaḥīḥ total 289, and that 134 of them are authorities from whom Muslim does not relate. Ḥāfiẓ Ibn Ḥajar, in the introduction to Fatḥ al-Bārī, adds that these teachers fall into five distinct tiers.
Tier One comprises those who themselves narrated from the Successors, such as Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd Allāh al-Anṣārī, who conveyed reports from Ḥumayd; Makkī ibn Ibrāhīm, who reported to him from Yazīd ibn Abī ʿUbayd; Abū ʿĀṣim al-Nabīl, who likewise narrated from Yazīd ibn Abī ʿUbayd; and ʿUbayd Allāh
