Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī
Its Title:
From ancient times until today the work on Prophetic hadith composed by Imām al-Bukhārī, may Allah have mercy on him, has been popularly known as “Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī” …
However, al-Bukhārī himself referred to it as al-Jāmiʿ al-Ṣaḥīḥ (the Sound Compendium), as he states when explaining the motive that led him to compile it. Al-Ḥāfiẓ Ibn Ḥajar records in the introduction to Fatḥ al-Bārī that its full title is: al-Jāmiʿ al-Ṣaḥīḥ al-Musnad min Ḥadīth Rasūl Allāh ﷺ wa-Sunanihi wa-Ayyāmihi (the Sound, Traced Compendium of the Hadiths of the Messenger of Allah, his practices, and his days). Ibn al-Ṣalāḥ, in ʿUlūm al-Ḥadīth, notes another formulation: al-Jāmiʿ al-Musnad al-Ṣaḥīḥ al-Mukhtaṣar min Umūr Rasūl Allāh ﷺ wa-Sunanihi wa-Ayyāmihi (the Concise, Sound, Traced Compendium concerning the affairs, practices, and days of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him).
