The Third and Final Phase: Correction
No two people who properly understand Islam would disagree that many Muslims in Africa and other continents need to have their understanding of Islam corrected. The establishment of the Islamic University in Medina, with its international scope, may well represent a prominent milestone in this phase of correction, provided those responsible for it are granted success and make wise use of it in this field. Bringing together young Muslims from countries throughout the world at this newly established university to study a unified curriculum in such an Islamic atmosphere, then return home to teach their people the religion, is indeed a form of correction—provided the university’s students are truthful, dedicate their efforts sincerely to Allah, follow a sound course, and act fairly. This is what we expect of them, Allah willing.
The Islamic University and the Department of Scholarly Research, Fatwa, Islamic Outreach and Guidance in Riyadh have recognized Africa’s urgent need for this correction and appreciated its true importance. In recognition of that need, they have agreed to cooperate and coordinate their corrective work. The Islamic University selects graduates capable of fulfilling the intended purpose and nominates them to the Presidency of the Department of Scholarly Research in Riyadh, which then sends them to eastern, western, and central Africa.
This, as you can see, is commendable Islamic cooperation that will bear fruit, Allah willing. Nevertheless, it still needs further planning and organization. We therefore ask Allah Most High to grant greater success to those responsible at both the university and the Department of Scholarly Research, so that this noble work may be better organized than before. In this way, the purpose for which this cooperation was arranged may be achieved in the best possible manner: renewing and correcting the understanding of Islam among Muslims at large, and removing the pagan remnants that have clung to their creed
