The Second Stage: The Spread of Islam

Like other continents, Africa did not benefit from organized, comprehensive Islamic outreach after the brief period discussed above, which we called the first stage. We therefore observe that, in this second stage, the spread of Islam cannot, in the vast majority of cases, be attributed to discerning preachers and knowledgeable scholars capable of distinguishing authentic teachings from foreign accretions and separating the worthless from the worthwhile.
