Moreover, the questioner has said that he is at times occupied with some private affairs and therefore misses part of the required working hours. This is impermissible. Whoever has been entrusted with a task must free himself for it and perform it in the best possible manner so that his income will be lawful; only then may he take the wage or salary with rightful entitlement and with the sanction of the Lawgiver.
Abandoning an evil deed
Question: If a person intends to commit something evil but does not actually do it, is a sin recorded against him or not?
Answer: The Prophet ﷺ taught that when a Muslim resolves to commit a sin but does not carry it out, a good deed is recorded for him—provided he refrains from it out of fear of Allah Almighty. If, however, he forgoes the act merely because he was unable to do it, while still intending that he would commit it if given the chance, then he is liable to sin on account of that intention.
Thus, if someone resolves to commit a sin but abandons it out of fear of Allah, out of dislike for the sin itself, and as a conscious turning away from it, he is rewarded for that, and a good deed is written for him, as affirmed in the hadith of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him.
