Urinating While Standing
Question: Is a person allowed to urinate while standing? What is the ruling on this? May Allah reward you.
Answer: It is disliked (makrūh) for a person to urinate while standing, unless there is a need—such as an illness that prevents him from sitting— in which case there is no harm in doing so. The same concession applies if the place is filthy and impure, so that sitting would soil him, or if the ground is muddy and he would be splashed were he to sit. In such situations he may urinate standing out of necessity. Otherwise, without a valid excuse, it remains disliked because it can cause impurity to splash back on him. And Allah, the Exalted, knows best.
