so what should I do to atone for what has happened? Please advise me; may Allah reward you with goodness.
Answer: Since you have already offered your advice and explained what you knew about this man, yet your family did not accept your counsel and went ahead with the marriage, you have fulfilled your duty and are not obliged to do anything further—except that you should keep on advising this young man, warning him against such behavior, and reminding him to fear Allah. That is all that is within your power.
If you are able to influence your family to request that their daughter separate from this young man should he persist in those evil deeds of theft and embezzlement, then do so; if you can persuade them to demand that their daughter leave this corrupt man, that would be a good thing. Do whatever you are able, and Allah knows best.

Patience with a Harmful Neighbor
Question: I have a neighbor who is addicted to alcohol. He insults me with his tongue; at times he is extremely pleasant with me, yet he also quarrels with me and plots against me. What should I do about him, given that he is my neighbor? Please benefit us; may Allah grant you every good.
Answer: There is no doubt that a neighbor has rights in Islam, and Allah, Mighty and Exalted, has urged kindness toward the neighbor. The Most High said:
“Worship Allah and associate nothing with Him, and show kindness to parents, relatives, orphans, the needy, the near neighbor, the distant neighbor, the companion at your side, the traveler, and those whom your right hands possess. Indeed, Allah does not love those who are arrogant and boastful.” ⦗an-Nisaʾ 4:36⦘.
