and can now be found in bookstores as well: it is the book al-Duʿāʾ al-Mustajāb (The Answered Supplication) by Muḥammad ʿAbd al-Jawād. This is a fanciful work jam-packed with innovated Sufi prayers, litanies, and devotional formulas for which there is no proof in the Qur’an or the Sunnah. Even its very title is an act of audacity toward Allah, exalted is He, for the author has called it “The Answered Supplication.” How does he know that these prayers will in fact be answered, and what evidence can he present for such a claim? His only motive is to attract the common folk and lure them with this innovated book.
I therefore direct the reader to trustworthy works on supplications and invocations, authored by reliable scholars from Ahl al-Sunnah:
- al-Wābil al-Ṣayyib by the eminent Ibn al-Qayyim.
- al-Kalim al-Ṭayyib by Shaykh al-Islām Ibn Taymiyyah.
- al-Adhkār by Imām al-Nawawī.
These books contain none of the innovated formulas; rather, they present the supplications established in the Qur’an and the Sunnah. They render needless the writings of charlatans and showmen. All praise is due to Allah.
