and cattle; the droppings of any animal whose meat is lawful to eat are pure, and there is no objection to selling them—their price is wholesome and entirely permissible. What is doubtful and contentious is manure that is itself impure, or that has become contaminated; this is where the problem and the scholarly disagreement lie. As for pure manure that comes from an animal whose meat is permitted, there is no harm in using it, selling it, or consuming its price.

Selling a Dog and Consuming Its Price
Question: What is the ruling on selling a dog and eating the money earned from it?
Answer: Selling a dog is forbidden, and consuming its price is forbidden, because the Prophet ﷺ “prohibited the price of a dog, the earnings of a soothsayer, and the hire of a prostitute.” All of these are forbidden, and the dog’s price is one of them.

Buying and Selling Dogs and Cats
Question: Is it permissible to buy and sell dogs and cats? Some people deal in these animals—please advise us, may Allah reward you.
Answer: It is not permissible to sell a dog or to consume its price, for the Prophet ﷺ “prohibited the price of a dog, the earnings of a soothsayer, and the hire of a prostitute.” This text shows that the dog’s price is forbidden, because the Prophet ﷺ forbade it and mentioned it alongside the earnings of a soothsayer and the hire of a prostitute—that is, a fornicator. These sources of income are unlawful, and that includes the dog’s price; the same ruling applies to a cat.
