Even if a person is not facing the pictures—whether they are to his side or on a wall that is not in the direction of his qiblah—it is still disliked for him to pray in that room or place until the images are taken down. Indeed, it is disliked for him even to sit or lie down there as long as the pictures remain displayed and hanging. In fact, it is disliked, and according to some authorities forbidden, for a Muslim to reside in such a room until the images have been removed.
Times during which prayer is disliked
Question: What are the times during which prayer is disliked?
Answer: They are the five periods that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ specified:
-
From the break of dawn until the sun rises. Once dawn appears, nothing is prayed except the two-rakʿah sunnah of Fajr; anything beyond that is deferred until the sun has risen.
-
The second period is when the sun is at its zenith until it begins to decline—that is, from the moment it is directly overhead until it tilts westward.
-
The third period is from the ʿAsr prayer until sunset.
These are three periods in summary.
More precisely, they are five:
a) from the Fajr prayer until sunrise;
b) from sunrise until the sun has risen the height of a spear;
c) when the sun is at the zenith until it declines; and
d) from after the ʿAsr prayer
