However, when the imām recites aloud, the congregants must remain silent and listen to the Qur’an, for the imām’s recitation counts for everyone. Allah, exalted is He, knows best.

Praying after the first adhān (call to prayer) on Friday
Question: What is the ruling on performing two rakʿahs (units of prayer) on Friday after the first adhān, once a Muslim has already prayed the mosque-greeting? Some people here say it is disliked, while others say it is a sunnah. Which view is correct?
Answer: If the first adhān is given well in advance and a person arrives at the mosque afterward, he may offer whatever voluntary prayers Allah enables him to perform until the imām comes out for the sermon, without being restricted to any particular number; he may pray as many units as he wishes.
But if the first adhān is delayed—as happens in some towns—so that it is called shortly before the imām appears and only a brief interval separates it from the final adhān, then no supererogatory prayer is prescribed after that adhān for those already in the mosque. If someone enters the mosque at that point, he should perform the greeting of the mosque; but for the person who is already seated inside and has previously prayed whatever he could, this first adhān does not institute any special prayer for him.
