However, you should learn your recitation from someone else and listen to a proficient reader, or make use of recorded tapes of the Qur’an—those of the slow, measured recitation—so that you can listen and benefit. This is what I advise you. As for touching the mushaf, it is not permissible for you while you remain in this condition. Nevertheless, there is no harm in reciting from memory the sūrahs you know by heart, in mentioning Allah with the prescribed forms of remembrance, or in quoting Prophetic ḥadiths. The only prohibited matter is to touch the mushaf without ritual purity. You can listen to a reciter who visits you, or to a recorded mushaf. Allah, exalted is He, knows best.

Touching the Mushaf while in a State of Major Ritual Impurity
Question: I know that a menstruating woman is not to touch the Noble Qur’an, but I have seen some sisters doing so. When I asked them, they said, “It is permissible; Allah has not forbidden it.” I have also heard that she may touch a book of tafsīr, that is, one containing Qur’anic verses. Please clarify this issue for us. May Allah grant you success.
Answer: It is not permissible for anyone in a state of major ritual impurity—whether due to janābah, menstruation, or post-partum bleeding—to touch the mushaf. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said in the letter of ʿAmr ibn Ḥazm: “None may touch the Qur’an except one who is pure.” This ruling is agreed upon by the four Imams. Therefore, a person in major ritual impurity may touch or carry the mushaf only from behind a barrier, such as a bag or a cover; to touch it directly is not allowed.
