were a complete stranger. The proof is the Almighty’s words:
“You will not find a people who believe in Allah and the Last Day loving those who oppose Allah and His Messenger, even though they were their fathers, or their sons, or their brothers, or their kinfolk. Such are the ones in whose hearts He has inscribed faith and whom He has strengthened with a spirit from Himself. He will admit them into Gardens beneath which rivers flow, where they will abide forever. Allah is pleased with them and they are pleased with Him. Those are the party of Allah; indeed, it is the party of Allah who will be successful.” (Al-Mujādilah 58:22) ⦗11⦘
…far removed from any blood tie to you—even were he a non-Arab, or black, or white, or red—you must still be loyal to him and love him, whether he lives in your own country or at the farthest reaches of the East or West. Allah says: “wal-muʾminuna wal-muʾminatu baʿduhum awliyaʾu baʿdin” (Al-Tawbah 9:71), meaning that between believing men and believing women there is mutual love, support, cooperation, and harmony—all of this applies exclusively to the believers.
(11) Concerning His words “la tajid” (you will not find), the address is to the Prophet ﷺ: it will simply never occur that someone who truly believes in Allah and His Messenger loves the disbelievers. Should a person love them, he is not a believer, no matter what he claims.
