This verse therefore attests to Allah’s favor in sending the Messenger Muhammad ﷺ to us, and clarifies that his mission is to show us the way to worship. Whoever obeys him will enter Paradise, and whoever disobeys him will enter the Fire, just as the people of Pharaoh were cast into the Fire for disobeying their messenger Musa (peace be upon him). The same outcome awaits all those who oppose the messengers. (7) This point is connected to the first. The first point established the obligation to worship Allah and to follow His Messenger ﷺ—precisely the meaning of the two testimonies: “There is no god but Allah” and “Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.” The second point is that worship mixed with shirk (associating partners with Allah) is rejected, for worship must be rendered solely for Allah’s sake. Thus, whoever claims to worship Allah while also worshipping another alongside Him has nullified his worship; its existence equals non-existence, because worship is of no benefit without ikhlas (sincerity) and tawhid (pure monotheism).
