and whoever rules by other than what Allah has revealed ⦗82⦘.
…“Say: none in the heavens and the earth knows the unseen except Allah” (Surah al-Naml, 27:65); “He is the Knower of the unseen; He does not disclose His unseen to anyone except a messenger whom He chooses” (Surah al-Jinn, 72:26-27); “With Him are the keys of the unseen; none knows them but He. He knows whatever is on land and in the sea; not a leaf falls without His knowledge, nor a grain in the darkness of the earth, nor anything fresh or dry but that it is recorded in a clear Book” (Surah al-Anam, 6:59).
The expression “none knows them but He” is an exclusive clause: only Allah possesses knowledge of the unseen, save for what He may disclose to one of His messengers for the good of humanity and as a miracle confirming the prophet’s truthfulness. A prophet does not know the unseen on his own; he knows it only through Allah’s teaching. Consequently, anyone who claims to know the unseen appropriates a prerogative that belongs solely to Allah, thereby becoming a mushrik (polytheist), a taghut (false deity) and a kafir (disbeliever); this is among the gravest forms of apostasy.
⦗82⦘ Fifth: ruling by something other than what Allah has revealed. The evidence is His statement: “They wish to refer their disputes for judgment to the taghut” (Surah al-Nisa, 4:60). Whoever judges by other than Allah’s revelation while declaring it lawful becomes a taghut; likewise, anyone who says it is permissible to seek judgment from secular law or to…
