(70) He now moves to another fundamental tenet, namely iman bil-baath (faith in the resurrection). The issue is not simply death itself—everyone, even unbelievers, atheists and heretics, acknowledges that death is inevitable, for it is a tangible reality. The real point of contention between believers and disbelievers is what comes after: the resurrection. This consists in the re-creation of bodies that had disintegrated into dust and scattered over the earth; they will be reconstructed exactly as they first were, for the One who originated them is fully capable of restoring them. Souls will then be breathed back into those bodies, which will rise and move from their graves to the place of assembly, as the Almighty says: “On the Day when they will come forth from the graves swiftly, as though hurrying toward a target” (Surah al-Maarij 43); and: “They will emerge from the graves like dispersed locusts, hastening toward the Caller” (Surah Qamar 7-8). No one will be left behind; such is the resurrection.
