And the proof from the Sunnah is the famous Hadith of Gabriel, narrated by ʿUmar (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: “While we were sitting with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, a man appeared before us, dressed in garments of dazzling white and with hair of deepest black …” ⦗48⦘
…for “her sin” was indeed a grave one—she had practised baghaʾ, that is, zina (prostitution)—yet Allah forgave her because of the kindness she showed that thirsty animal.
How much greater, then, is the reward when the beneficiary is not a dog but a hungry Muslim, or even any human being, believer or unbeliever! Whenever you show kindness to such a person, Allah Most High thanks you for that act, for He says: “And do good; indeed, Allah loves those who excel in doing good” (Quran 2:195).
The third form of ihsan is to perfect one’s work: whatever task you undertake, you must carry it out with excellence, not so that people will say, “So-and-so is skilled,” but because, as the hadith states, “Allah loves that when one of you performs a deed, he perfects it.”

وَالدَّلِيلُ مِنَ السُّنَّةِ حَدِيثُ جِبْرِيلَ الْمَشْهُورُ عَنْ عمر ﵁ قَالَ: «بَيْنَمَا نَحْنُ جُلُوسٌ عند رسول الله ﷺ إِذْ طَلَعَ عَلَيْنَا رَجُلٌ، شَدِيدُ بَيَاضِ الثِّيَابِ، شَدِيدُ سَوَادِ الشَّعْرِ» . [٤٨]
«ذنبها» ، وهو ذنب عظيم، وهو البغاء، أي: الزنى، فغفر الله لها بسبب ذلك؛ لأنها أحسنت إلى هذا البهيم العطشان.
فكيف بغير الكلب؟ إذا أحسنت إلى جائع من المسلمين، أو حتى من بني آدم ولو كان كافرا، إذا أحسنت إليه فإن الله جل وعلا يشكر لك ذلك الإحسان، قال تعالى: ﴿وَأَحْسِنُوا إِنَّ اللَّهَ يُحِبُّ الْمُحْسِنِينَ﴾ [البقرة: ١٩٥] .
النوع الثالث: وهو إتقان العمل، أي عمل تعمله يجب عليك أن تتقنه، لا ليقال: إن فلانا يحسن كذا، وقد جاء في الحديث: «إن الله يحب إذا عمل أحدكم عملا أن يتقنه» .
