Because they practiced iḥsān in this life, Allah will reward them by granting them the opportunity to behold Him with their own eyes in the Abode of Delight.
The Exalted said, “For those who excelled there shall be the finest reward—and even more besides” (10:26). The “more” is the vision of Allah’s Face. Since they excelled while in the world, Allah granted them the finest reward—Paradise—and then added to it the beatific vision. You worship Allah as though you see Him, filled with awareness, love, and longing to meet Him; you take pleasure in His obedience, find your heart at peace in obeying Him, and yearn for it. This is the way of those who perform iḥsān.
The second rank: if you have not reached that lofty station, then worship Him in the mode of vigilant awareness—knowing that Allah sees you, knows your state, and knows what lies within you. It is unseemly, therefore, to disobey or contradict His command while He observes you and has full knowledge of you. This is a commendable condition, though lower than the first. So long as you know that He sees you, you will perfect and refine your worship, for you are certain that Allah is watching. By way of analogy—though His is the highest likeness—were you standing before a dignified human being who had assigned you a task and was watching you carry it out, would it befit you to perform that task carelessly?
