“That is because Allah alone is the Truth, while whatever they invoke apart from Him is sheer falsehood, and because Allah is the Most High, the All-Great.” (Al-Hajj 22:62)

He—magnified be He—testifies to His own oneness, and He is the most truthful of all who speak. His testimony is the truest testimony, for it issues from the All-Wise, the All-Aware, the All-Knowing, who encompasses everything in His knowledge; therefore it is undeniably true.

The angels likewise bear witness that there is no deity except Him. They form an unseen realm that Allah created to worship Him—noble servants who glorify Him night and day without weariness. He also appointed them to carry out His commands in the universe; every cosmic matter that Allah decrees is entrusted to them, and each angel is charged with a specific task. Their testimony is a testimony of truth, for they are beings of knowledge, devotion, and intimate awareness of Allah. They are among the finest of all creatures, although scholars differ as to whether the righteous among humankind are superior to the angels or the angels to righteous humans—there is a divergence of opinion on the matter.

Those endowed with knowledge fall into two categories: first, the angels; and second, the learned among human beings. The people of knowledge do not testify except to what is true, whereas the testimony of the ignorant carries no weight. Every scholar within Allah’s creation bears witness to His oneness—that there is no god but He—and in this lies an exalted honor.
